Meet the Founder of jac designs

Candice Kachel, owner and founder of jac designs, has been making feeders from recycled materials for nearly a decade.

She travels throughout the country, scouring through antique stores, thrift stores, and flea markets, for quality materials to use in the creation of her feeders.

“I have always been into quality, not quantity. I like things that you can tell the artisan took the time to do it right, and that’s what I do," Candice says. "I have in the past taken a feeder totally apart when it didn't look right after it was completed, because I’d rather spend more time on something and feel good about it than have the feeling that I could have done better.”

Candice is a self-taught artisan; through trial and error she learned how to drill holes in metal and glass. She handles the whole process - from conceptualizing the bird feeder design, finding the materials, and piecing them together - out of her workshop in Soquel, California. Today, she can see a vase, or metal plate and visually see a finished bird feeder.

Feeders range in size from large to small, and feature unique designs made from one-of-a-kind treasures. Candice also offers commissions by request.
